If you’ve googled anything today, remember that Google’s co-founder, Sergey Brin, was born in the Soviet Union in the 1970s, and came to the United States with his family to escape Jewish persecution. Their asylum was granted with the help from the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society.

Years later Brin would attend Stanford University in California’s Silicon Valley, and start Google, a search company, with a fellow student named Larry Page. Their mission statement? “To organize the world’s information, and make it universally accessible and useful.”
